Cellular Shades, Pleated Shades, Natural Shades, Roman Shades, Roller Shades, Solar Shades, Wood Blinds, Faux Wood Blinds, Horizontal Blinds and Vertical Blinds

Inside Mount

Inside mount blinds and shades are installed inside the window casing. Minimum depth requirements vary by product and headrail type, or by tube size for Solar Shades. See your designer or sales associate for complete details.

  • Measure the exact inside width of window casing from one inside edge to the other in three different places. Record the narrowest measurement.

  • Measure the exact height in three different places from top edge of opening to top of sill. Record the longest measurement. Solar Shades should be measured at the top only.

Do not take any deductions for clearance. The factory will take necessary deductions for a perfect fit.
Measure the window diagonally in two places, as shown. If the diagonal dimensions are not equal, we recommend an outside mount application for optimal function and aesthetics.

Additional Information for Measuring Solar Shades and Roller Shades

On Continuous Loop inside mounts, there is up to 3/4" light gap per side. On Cordless inside mounts, there is approximately 1" of light gap on the right and just over 1/2" on the left.

  • For optimal light and glare control, outside mount is recommended, or you may add a secondary soft window treatment (drapery or curtain) to hide the light gap on an inside mount.

  • Fabric width is 1 1/8"-1 3/8" narrower than finished shade width of the tube and its components on Continuous Loop shades.

Fabric width is 1"-1 1/4" narrower than finished shade width of the tube and components (without valance or side covers) on Cordless shade.

Outside Mount

Outside mount blinds and shades are installed outside the window casing, covering an area larger than the window itself.

  • Measure the exact width to be covered. Be sure the measurement overlaps the window opening by at least 1 ½" on each side (3" total overlap) to ensure light control and privacy.

For Solar Shades make sure the measurement overlaps the window opening by at least 3" on each side (6" total overlap) to ensure light control and privacy.

Contact us at 713-692-0301 complete details.

Measure exact height to be covered, including desired overlap (typically from top edge of molding to bottom edge, or to top of sill if there is one).

The factory makes NO allowances on outside mount.

Vertical Blinds

For an inside or ceiling mount

Depending on the size of the window or door, by mounting your vertical blinds on the inside, you will be partially covering the glass with the stacked blinds when they are opened (and to one side or both sides).

  • Measure the exact width of the window opening across the top where the head-rail is to be installed.
  • Next, measure from the inside of the trim on the left side to the inside of the trim on the right side. Round the measurement down to the nearest 1/8". Note: The head-rail of all inside mount blinds will be made slightly smaller (1/16" to 3/8") than requested to allow room for mounting brackets and for operating clearance.
  • Measure the exact height of the window opening from the inside of the trim to the top of the windowsill or to the exact length that you want the blind. Measure the height in three places (the right side, the middle, and the left side of the window). Round the measurements down to the nearest 1/8" and use the shortest (smallest) measurement.

Note: The blind will be made about ¼" to ½" shorter to allow for free movement of vanes at the sill or floor.

  • Measure the available depth of your window frame. Be careful not to include inside trim, window cranks or tracks. Measure only the space that is available to install the mounting brackets for the blinds.

For an outside or wall mount

It is very important to understand that if you are measuring for an outside mount or a wall mount for your new vertical blinds, the blinds will be manufactured to the exact size that you specify.

  • Measure the width of the window opening (including trim). If there is room, add at least 4" to each side for overlap, to help ensure minimum light gap.
  • Measure the window opening height. Add at least 3" in height to allow for mounting brackets above the opening and add your desired overlap at the bottom. If your blinds will hang down to the floor or to the windowsill, deduct at least ½" for clearance.

Quick Tips:
Allow 3-5 inches above the doorframe to mount the vertical brackets.

When measuring the width for an outside mount, add a minimum of 3 to 4 inches on both sides of the window to prevent light gaps.

If your door handle protrudes it could interfere with the window treatment. If necessary you can order extension brackets. These brackets add depth to the head-rail, allowing the clearance for the obstructing door handle.

Slide-Vue™ Cellular Shades

Inside Mount

Inside Mount shades are installed inside the window casing or door, or wall to wall in a room. For inside mount recess requirements, see your designer or sales associate

  • Measure the exact inside width of window casing from one inside edge to the other in three different places. Record the narrowest measurement.

  • Measure the exact height in three different places from top edge of opening to top of sill. Record the longest measurement.

  • Measure the window diagonally in two places, as shown. If the diagonal dimensions are not equal, we recommend an outside mount application for optimal function and aesthetics.

Do not take any deductions for clearance. The factory will take necessary deductions for a perfect fit.

Outside Mount

Outside mount shades are installed outside the window casing, covering an area larger than the window itself.

  • Measure the exact width of window, including frame if there is one. Add 3" for each side (6" total overlap) to ensure light control and privacy.

  • Measure height of window from top edge of molding to bottom edge, or to top of sill if there is one. Add 3" to allow for adequate mounting area above the window.

  • If shade extends to floor (i.e. to cover patio door), measure height in three places, take the smallest measurement.

Do not take deductions. Allowances are made at the factory to ensure a perfect fit.

If you want the entire window uncovered when the shade is fully open, you may need to add more than 6" to the width. See designer or sales associate for additional guidance.
